Burglars avoid houses that have occupants all the time. But this should not be the case all the time because anything can happen out of the blue. There will be times that nobody will be left in your house and your stuff are greatly at risk if your house is being intruded. It’s not only your precious things who are at risk but your family as well. With the crimes happening everywhere, you’ve got to apply some measures to at least prevent or minimize the risk of being a victim of these evil-doings.
You should not hand out keys to your friends no matter how trustworthy they are. Take note of the location of the keys and never do the usual or typical hide-a-key practices because intruders know these locations. House keys and car keys must be separately kept.
Being cautious is a mean of home security. Do not allow strangers come in your house. You should look for photo identification if someone is delivering a package. Burglars would do some disguise just to do some surveillance in your house and make your property their priority target. If someone or a stranger wants to make a phone call because of an emergency, just do it for them instead of letting them in.
The doors and windows should be locked at all times even if you are inside your house. Tell everyone living with you to practice it. Your valuables such as wallet, purse, credit cards, jewelry, or fancy electronics should not be on open sight. It would be inviting for intruders to make you as a target if they see these things so easily. Installation of gadgets like alarms, motion detectors, cctv cameras, etc is of great help to heighten the security in your property. However, you should always keep in mind that these devices need maintenance such as checking the wires, cctv software upgrade, or changing of batteries.
