Beachfront hotels
What are the advantages and disadvantages of staying in beachfront hotels?
Let’s look at the advantages. Well, of course, there’s the convenience of being able to step outside of your room and onto the beach. You will get to avoid driving to the public beach, paying for parking, loading up beach floats, sand toys, shells, towels, and so on. You also won’t end up with a lot of sand in your car. Of course, it could be a rental car, so that may not be a deal-breaker for you!
Several years ago, three of my girlfriends and I rented a beautiful condo right on the beach front. We looked at many beachfront hotels, condos and resorts, before making a choice. We picked this one not only because it was very nice on the inside and would accommodate the three of us with room to spare, but because it was in fantastic location. The condo was close to shopping, restaurants, bars and night clubs, miniature golf, water parks, and more.
The number one advantage, in my opinion, of staying beachfront is that I night, after you’ve played on the beach, relaxed in the pool, eaten a fabulous meal, you can drift off to sleep to the soothing sounds of the crashing waves on the shore right outside your room.
There’s nothing much more relaxing than that, until…
Now here’s where the disadvantages come in. Beach parties. Yes, it was convenient to have those beach side bars near by, but what if you don’t want to stay up until two a.m.? The band may feel differently! Not to mention all the intoxicated people who move the party to the beach and continue partying long after the bars have closed.
I’ll never forget relaxing in that beautiful condo, drifting off while the ocean waves lulled me into that deep relaxation that comes right before sinking into a perfect, sound sleep…and just then, I hear, “Hell yeah!” And it was party on!
After all morning at the water park, all afternoon at the beach, several rounds of putt-putt golf, and a night cap at the beach side bar, I needed sleep in a bad way.
At that point, I would have traded the whole condo, beach, ocean, and all for any quiet, inland, chain motel!
Three and a half hours I lay awake that night listening to the sounds of a boom box blaring, people screaming and laughing, skinny dippers swimming, and, at one point, someone puking right underneath my balcony. Every so often I could hear the sound an ocean wave creep into the chaos, but they were few and far between.
The next day, after several cups of coffee, I got on-line to read the reviews of the condo/resort where we were staying. After reading several dozen, I wished I had gone to this website before booking this place!
The parties and noise were actually a common occurrence. Thirty percent of the reviews mention them. Apparently, to the locals, this part of the beach was designated a “party zone.” People would come from ALL the nearby bars to create one gigantic, drunken, celebration.
